This article describes a couple of different methods of updating the version of ControlSpace Remote Client App on the MIMO MCT-70QDS/MCT- 70HPQ tablets.

The 7" MIMO tablets that are purchased from Bose Professional ship with the ControlSpace Remote app pre-installed. Depending on when the unit was shipped, the version of ControlSpace Remote may not be current. In most cases, the app does not need to be updated. However, there may be features of ControlSpace Remote that are only available in later versions or bug fixes that improve the performance of the app.

Procedure

First, the latest package file containing the ControlSpace Remote app must be acquired and loaded to the tablet, and this can be performed in one of three ways.

Method 1 - Using an Internet-Connected MIMO Tablet

If the MIMO tablet is connected to a network with internet access, the updated ControlSpace Remote app may be downloaded directly to the tablet and installed using the tools already provided by the Android OS.

  1. Open the web browser app in the Android app menu ("Browser" or "Lightning" on newer Android versions). To access this menu, press the icon (or the ^ icon on newer Android versions).
  2. Navigate to https://www.boseprofessional.com. If prompted with any certificate errors, click through to proceed to the site.
  3. From the menu button in the upper left-hand corner, select Products > Software Control.
  4. On the next page, select ControlSpace Remote.
  5. Scroll down to the Software Downloads portion of the product page and select Client Software (Android) v2.xxx (this version number will vary based on when this procedure is being done).
  6. If prompted with a confirmation dialog, select DOWNLOAD to save the .APK app file to the tablet's internal memory.
  7. See the instructions below regarding how to install the app to the tablet.

Method 2 - Using a USB Connection to a PC

Before beginning, be sure to download the latest version of the Client Software Android package file (.APK file) from www.boseprofessional.com, and save the file to the PC.

  1. Connect a USB cable to the tablet using the Micro-USB port on the bottom side of the enclosure, just beside the network port. Connect the other end (typically USB-A) to the PC.
  2. After any required drivers are installed, the tablet will appear under the list of devices commonly found in This PC.
  3. Select the tablet's Internal Storage, and open the Download folder.
  4. Click and drag or copy/paste the previously downloaded Android package file into the Download folder.
  5. Close the window and disconnect the USB cable from the tablet.
  6. See the instructions below regarding how to install the app to the tablet.

Method 3 - Using a USB Flash Drive

Before beginning, be sure to download the latest version of the Client Software Android package file (.APK file) from www.boseprofessional.com, and save the file to the root directory of a USB flash drive. Most flash drives will work out of the box, but if not, format the flash drive (right-click on the drive -> Format...) using the FAT32 file system. NOTE: Formatting will erase the flash drive, so be sure to backup any critical data prior to taking this step.

  1. Plug the flash drive into the USB-A port on the side of the tablet enclosure. If the tablet is installed in a wall box, it will need to be removed to perform this step.
  2. Open the Explorer app in the Android app menu. To access this menu, press the  icon (or the ^ icon on newer Android versions).
  3. Select USB to open the flash drive root directory.
  4. Press and hold on the ControlSpace Remote client app and select Copy on the pop-up menu.
  5. On the toolbar above, select Home, then Internal Memory > Download
  6. Once in the Download folder, select Editor on the toolbar, and then Paste from the pop-up menu.
  7. See the instructions below regarding how to install the app to the tablet.

Installing the .APK Package File

  1. Open the ApkInstaller app in the Android app menu.
  2. Select Install on the next screen to launch the file system explorer.
  3. Navigate to Internal Memory > Download folder where the package file will be shown in the pane to the right.
  4. Select the package file to start the installation.
  5. If prompted with a question, select INSTALL to complete the installation.
  6. After the successful installation, select DONE to finish, or OPEN to open the app.
